We were sealed with the Holy Spirit as God’s own possession, yet once lived spiritually dead in sin and under the influence of the world. But God, rich in mercy and great in love, stepped in to change our condition.
The letter to the Ephesians begins by reminding believers of the spiritual blessings they have in Christ: chosen by God, adopted as His children, redeemed and forgiven, given purpose, and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
